The Northern States Christian Elders Forum, has warned President Bola Tinubu not mistake Nigerians’ patience for acceptance of hardship.

The forum issued the warning in a statement by its Chairman, Elder Sunday Oibe, on Thursday.

It urged President Tinubu to scrap the fresh increase in the pump price of petrol.

According to the forum, another petrol-price increase would only tighten the already worsened situation and deepen the uncertainty confronting millions of Nigerians.

It charged the President to use the remaining period of his administration to tackle the immediate pressures on citizens, including the rising cost of living, unemployment, insecurity and the decay of critical infrastructure.

“The patience of Nigerians should not be mistaken for acceptance of perpetual hardship,” it warned.

The elders further asked the government to look beyond repeated fuel price hike if it needs additional revenue to fund its programmes and obligations,

They stressed that alternative and sustainable sources should be explored instead of continually transferring the burden to citizens.
