Because FIFA transfer regulations restrict international transfers for players under the age of 18, Orozco had to wait until reaching adulthood before completing his move.

In their official statement, Manchester United confirmed (via official website):

“Manchester United have completed the signing of exciting young midfielder Cristian Orozco. The 18-year-old joins from Colombian Categoria Primera A side, Fortaleza CEIF. Orozco, who was developed in Rojo FC’s academy, played five first-team games for Fortaleza last season and has represented Colombia up to Under-17s level.”

The club further noted that the young prospect will not be rushed straight into high-pressure senior action.

Instead, he will initially be supported by the Manchester United Academy while he settles into life in England, adapts to the local culture, and integrates into the training setup in Manchester.

Born in Colombia, Cristian Orozco is a technically gifted defensive midfielder renowned for his composure, physical presence, and ball distribution capabilities.

Originally developed in the youth system at Rojo FC, Orozco’s rapid progress led to a move to Fortaleza CEIF, where he quickly earned five first-team appearances in Colombia’s top flight.

At the international level, Orozco has represented Colombia across youth categories up to the Under-17 stage, where he notably captained his nation at the FIFA U-17 World Cup.

By making the transition to Manchester, Orozco becomes the third Colombian player to sign for Manchester United, following in the footsteps of Radamel Falcao and Mateo Mejía.

His addition reinforces United’s long-term blueprint of embedding talented South American stars directly into their developmental pipeline.
