Dominick Reyes rages at Daniel Cormier over UFC 333 commentary; 'DC' responds: 'This is insane'

· · 3 min read

The two-time light heavyweight title challenger scored a stellar first-round knockout of Azamat Murzakanov to close out the UFC 333 prelims in Abu Dhabi. All appeared to be well for Reyes, who’s now won two fights in a row following a lackluster decision win over Johnny Walker in April.

In his post-fight interview with Daniel Cormier, Reyes was understandably all smiles after a clean performance. But that changed hours later, when Reyes took to X for the first time since June to randomly lambast the UFC Hall of Famer turned color commentator.

Said Reyes in a furious string of posts:

Real talk, who actually likes hearing low iq hater ass DC?!

I have a long flight let’s get some truths going!

Sick of being the nice guy while these clowns flat out disrespect and marginalize what I’ve done in this sport. These so called “experts”.

And no Jon jones didn’t whoop all of us, he whooped you! Bad! Multiple times. Kid

Calling me kid, Mf I’m a grown ass man!

We’re at the point where we applaud dc for knowing basic grappling moves.

@DominickCruz Was right all along.

And another thing!

We’re at the point where we applaud dc for knowing basic grappling moves.

This wasn’t Cormier’s first time being targeted in retirement by a fighter on social media.

The former UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight champion has always defended his work in the broadcast booth, and eventually did so by responding to Reyes.

Said Cormier:

Chill

Yo dom chill. I don’t call you kid negatively I’ve only spoke truth to you. When you do some amazing s*** like you did today I praise you. If you do something like the last fight with Johnny [Walker], I speak The Truth about that too. But these comments seem like you’ve been carrying something with you for a while. You can always talk to me. I’m not very hard to find.

All of which, unsurprisingly, prompted a quick response from Reyes:

My name is Dominick not Kid. Yeah I heard your commentary tonight on my fight. How about the part where Paul called you out for your clear bias? And what did you do? You laughed about it. No I don’t know where to find you?? I’ve literally never seen you anywhere other than around the cage or in the cage post fight. I’m bothered by your lack of research and knowledge whilst commentating. Your “expert” commentary sways the opinions of average fans, and that has a profound effect on our lives. Your clear bias towards fighters from the caucus region is frustrating, especially being an American fighter.

It appeared the spat might end there. Cormier, however, had one more follow-up responsebefore each man called it a night — at least in their exchange.

Reyes later continued, commenting on the other fight results from UFC 333.

Cormier:

You’re tripping bud and honestly I’ll just find you for a conversation. I actually like you. I told your team how amazing you looked tonight this may have been your best performance. But this is insane. Just stop! Seriously

Reyes:

I’m not your buddy guy. But seriously, I don’t care if you like me, truly. I only care that you have unbiased well informed color commentary. I will stop now but not because you asked me to.

Reyes, 36, has been on a hot streak of late after enduring a rough four-fight skid that began with his first career loss — an infamous and controversial unanimous decision defeat to then-light heavyweight champion Jon Jones in February 2020.
