Dolphins won't face their former first-round pick in joint practice

The Miami Dolphins wrapped up their second week of training camp on Saturday with a practice session on the field inside Hard Rock Stadium.

Miami will have Sunday off before returning to the practice fields during the week, and before they take on the Washington Commanders in a preseason bout, the two teams will meet for a joint practice on Wednesday, August 12.

While Miami was set to take on former Dolphins first-round pick Laremy Tunsil, but the offensive lineman reportedly tore his triceps during practice on Saturday, which will likely cost him most of the 2026 season.

The Dolphins took Tunsil with pick No. 13 in the 2016 NFL draft before trading him, Kenny Stills, a 2020 fourth-round pick and a 2021 sixth-round pick to the Houston Texans for a 2020 first-round pick, a 2021 first-round pick and a 2021 second-round pick.

Tunsil joined the Commanders last year and played 14 games after making five Pro Bowls in six years in Houston.

Going against one of the top tackles in the league would’ve been a great test for Miami’s pass rushers, but now they’ll have an easier time going against either Trent Scott, Foster Sarrell or Andrew Wylie opposite 2025 first-round pick Josh Conerly Jr.
