Dolphins waive injured TE to make room for new RB

The Miami Dolphins continue to make moves to improve their roster throughout training camp, and on Wednesday, it was reported that they were signing rookie running back Coleman Bennett.

While we didn’t originally know how the Dolphins opened up a roster spot, the team later announced that they’ve waived/injured tight end Cole Turner.

Turner, 26, played at Nevada from 2018-21, earning All-Mountain West honors twice before the Washington Commanders took him in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL draft. After three years in Washington, he spent last season with the Tennessee Titans.

In 23 career games, Turner has caught 13 passes for 143 yards.

Miami signed Turner this offseason to compete for a depth spot in the tight end room, and he’s had a strong training camp before suffering the injury. If he goes unclaimed on waivers, he’ll revert to the team’s season-ending injured reserve.

The Dolphins are really thin at tight end right now heading into their preseason finale. With Ben Sims and Will Kacmarek dealing with injuries, Miami may have to go into the game with Greg Dulcich, Seydou Traore, Jeremiah Franklin and Ethan Conner at the position.
