Dolphins rookie reveals who he's studying to learn new role

The Miami Dolphins took 13 players throughout the three days and seven rounds of the 2026 NFL Draft, but the first of their selections was Alabama offensive lineman Kadyn Proctor.

Proctor played 39 games at offensive tackle for the Crimson Tide, but with the Dolphins having both Patrick Paul and Austin Jackson on their roster, they decided to move the rookie inside to left guard.

We didn’t get much of an opportunity to see Proctor at his new spot in the preseason, but he’s working hard, and he’s even watching tape of a former NFL offensive lineman to get better.

“Rodger Saffold, I’ve been seeing him,” Proctor told reporters this week. “Actually, Aaron Brewer told me to watch him because they played together, and Brew said that he saw some of the similar qualities in me that he saw in Rodger. So I’ve been watching him a little bit.”

Saffold was a second-round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft out of Indiana. He played 13 seasons in the NFL and had stints with the St. Louis/Los Angeles Rams, Tennessee Titans and Buffalo Bills. He made two Pro Bowls (2021 and 2022) and earned All-Pro honors once (2017).

Proctor is a bit bigger than Saffold, with two inches and nearly 30 pounds on him, but Saffold played both guard and tackle at points in his NFL career, which could be a big reason why Brewer suggested that the rookie watch the tape.

If the Dolphins get Proctor for 13 years, and he makes some Pro Bowls and can earn All-Pro honors, they’d probably be pretty happy with that.
