Dolphins announce trio of roster moves after wrapping up OTAs

The Miami Dolphins are on their long break in between their organized team activities and training camp in late July, but that doesn’t mean that the front office is done manipulating the roster.

On Monday, the team announced that they’ve signed safety Major Burns, released offensive lineman Kion Smith and waived/injured tackle Carter Warren.

Smith, 27, played at Fayetteville State from 2016-19. After going undrafted, he had a brief stint with the Atlanta Falcons before spending the last five seasons with the Dolphins, where he appeared in 23 games and started two.

Burns, 24, split his collegiate career between two top programs – Georgia in 2020 and LSU from 2021-24. He went undrafted in 2025 and spent last offseason with the Chicago Bears. Burns joined the UFL’s Houston Gamblers for their 2026 campaign, where he led the league in interceptions and earned All-UFL honors.

Warren, 27, played at Pittsburgh from 2017-22, earning All-ACC honors. The New York Jets took him in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL draft. He spent two years with the Jets, appearing in 14 games and starting six. After New York waived him, Warren spent the 2025 season on the Atlanta Falcons practice squad before signing a reserve/futures contract with Miami in January. If he goes unclaimed, he’ll revert back to the team’s practice squad.
