Dodgers Fans Sound Off on Player of the Week: Roki Sasaki, Shohei Ohtani, or Freddie Freeman?
Dodgers Fans Sound Off on PlayerWe asked and you answered.
We here at Dodgers Nation wanted to know who the fans thought was the player of the week for the Boys in Blue, and a good percentage of you picked somebody that was catching quite a bit of heat earlier this season: Roki Sasaki.
Sasaki had the best start of his career against the Los Angeles Angeles on Friday, racking up seven scoreless inning with 10 strikeouts, two hits and two walks in 98 pitches.
Sasaki is fulfilling the potential many saw, even as he struggled earlier this year, and fans were quick to praise him for it.
Even up against the likes of Freddie Freeman and Shohei Ohtani, what Sasaki did on Friday was special.
“Love all 3 of them but we gotta hand the trophy to Roki! We’ve been saying all along ‘trust the process’ and we’re now beginning to see the results. So this one is his,” said @shelma848.
“It’s so easy to pick Ohtani and it’s justified, but I’m gonna go with Roki as player of the week. He has taken so much heat from us fans and he’s battled through all his struggles. He’s kept his head down and worked and it’s paying off!!” said @0331KSR.
“I’m going with Roki, just because of the progress he’s made this year. You expect these kinds of things from Freddie & Shohei, but the strides Roki has made are pretty impressive,” said @msloniker122217.
As some of those commenters noted, Ohtani and Freeman were also worthy of the honor.
Freeman had a big walk-off home run on Friday to go along with weekly totals of 10 hits, two homers, five RBIs, a .400 average and 1.063 OPS.
Ohtani, meanwhile, hit .429 on the week with a 1.234 OPS. He had nine hits, including a homer, and four RBIs.
It’s worth mentioning also that in one of those games for Ohtani, he reached base five times as a batter and threw six scoreless innings, with six strikeouts against only two hits and one walk.
Maybe commenter @michael.gingras got it right.
“Really, I gotta pick? All three.”
