However, the decision to put superstar Shohei Ohtani on the Injured List with an inflammation of his right biceps is not the kind of news that will give the Dodgers any confidence. The hope is that by giving him time off in the middle of September, he will be able to regain strength and perform at close to his best when he returns.

While Ohtani is missing from the Dodgers lineup as they take on the Miami Marlins on the road, they have promoted minor league phenom Josue De Paula. He had a brilliant season at the Double-A level and the Dodgers have brought him up to the big leagues without having played at the Triple-A level.

De Paula has blasted 27 home runs with 104 runs batted in and 106 runs scored. He has slashed .303/.401/.547 and he has demonstrated that he can hit the ball hard and do it for distance.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said his plan for De Paula is to use him as the team’s designated hitter throughout the 3-game series in Miami. “He has earned this promotion and we are excited about him being here,” Roberts said. “We are set in the outfield, so we plan on using him as our designated hitter for these 3 games.”

De Paula may have had an excellent season at the plate in Tulsa, but he has struggled quite a bit in the field.
