Do not sacrifice professionalism for mediocrity – OGIRS boss charges CITN members

Members of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, CITN, have been charged not to sacrifice professionalism for mediocrity in order to keep upholding the integrity of the tax profession, maintaining public trust and contributing meaningfully to national development through ethical and efficient tax administration.

The Executive Chairman, Ogun State Internal Revenue Service, OGIRS, Mr Olugbenga Olaleye, gave the charge while receiving a delegation of CITN during a courtesy visit to his office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

He urged members of the Institute not to succumb to pressure in the issuance of licences, but to uphold professionalism, integrity and follow due process in the discharge of their responsibilities.

Olaleye stated that adherence to these principles would protect the credibility of the profession, promote public confidence in tax administration, and ensure that only qualified and competent practitioners were authorised to operate.

The OGIRS Chairman further emphasised the importance of collaboration between OGIRS and CITN in strengthening tax compliance, improving service delivery and advancing the development of the tax profession in Ogun State.

“I have a team and I pride myself on the professionalism, dedication and integrity of our staff in OGIRS. I trust them to uphold the highest standards in the discharge of their duties,” he said.

In his remarks, the Vice President of CITN, Federal Capital Territory District Society, Simon Kato, appreciated the Chairman for his unwavering support and commitment to the hosting of the 16th CITN Zonal Tax Conference.

He advised professionals to be friendly, hospitable and technically sound in resolving tax-related issues and payment processes.

Kato also appealed to tax officials to treat taxpayers with courtesy, respect and fairness, noting that their cooperation was essential to promoting voluntary tax compliance and strengthening public trust in the tax system.
