Detroit City FC fans will have to wait a little bit longer for a new stadium

As announced in a news release on Tuesday, June 16, AlumniFi Field, the proposed new stadium for DCFC, has had its opening pushed back from 2027 to the spring of 2028. A groundbreaking at the site of the former Southwest Hospital has been scheduled for July.

The announcement of the schedule change was paired with the release of new renderings, which includes designs from Ferndale architectural firm Disbrow Ianuzzi. Fans who have made deposits for future season tickets will have access to renderings at Mercado in the Detroit neighborhood of Mexicantown, blocks away from the proposed site in Corktown.

“Opening the preview center at the Mercado gives our supporters and the broader community a place to connect with what AlumniFi Field is becoming in a way that feels tangible and immediate,” said DCFC co-founder and CEO Sean Mann. “The response so far has been incredibly strong, and we are excited to roll out this space in the heart of our community, as we continue to build out a permanent home for soccer in Detroit just a few blocks down the street.”

The club first proposed AlumniFi Field to be opened ahead of the 2027 season, a timeline that even Mann called “aggressive” back when renderings of the stadium were first revealed in May of 2025. Southfield construction firm Barton Malow has been tapped to build the Corktown stadium.

New photos released by the club include renderings of concourses and luxury suites.

The stadium will have a capacity of 15,000 seats, with the club saying that 6,000 season ticket deposits have already been made for the first season at the new stadium. The club confirmed that it will play the 2027 USL Championship season at Keyworth Stadium in Hamtramck, home of the club since 2016.
