Depot Nigerian Army Osogbo orders probe into alleged assault of students, seeks evidence from NANS

The Depot Nigerian Army, Osogbo, has ordered an investigation into allegations of misconduct involving some of its personnel following claims made by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone D.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Army Public Relations Officer, Major Yahaya Ibrahim, the Commandant of the Depot said the Nigerian Army was committed to protecting all citizens, particularly young people, and would not tolerate any form of harassment, intimidation or assault by its personnel.

The statement noted that the allegations raised by NANS were being taken seriously and that an investigation had been launched to establish the facts surrounding the incident.

The Commandant also called on the NANS Southwest Zone D Coordinator, Adeyemo Josiah Kayode, to provide all available evidence and witness statements to aid a thorough investigation.

According to the statement, any personnel found culpable would face the full weight of military law, stressing that the alleged conduct did not reflect the values, training and character expected of recruits at the Depot.

The Depot further assured the public of its commitment to accountability and maintaining the highest standards of professionalism among its personnel.

The Commandant also expressed readiness to meet with the NANS leadership at the earliest opportunity to discuss the matter and agree on the way forward.
