Delayed IndyCar race at Nashville reduced to 225 Laps, starts 3 p.m. today

IndyCar’s Music City Grand Prix at Nashville was moved to 3 p.m. Monday because of Sunday night rainshowers in Tennessee.

Also, the Borchetta Bourbon-sponsored race at Nashville Superspeedway will be shortened from 300 laps to 225, IndyCar officials announced Sunday night. The abbreviated distance is because of a forecast of record temperatures and a heat index over 100 degrees.

All other procedures for the NTT IndyCar series race remain unchanged, including the rule mandating each team uses at least one set of primary Firestone Firehawk tires and two sets of alternate tires in the race.

A downpour swept through middle Tennessee on Sunday evening, ending track drying from earlier storms and forcing the postponement of the race. Kyle Kirkwood of Andretti Global will lead the 25-car field to the green flag in the No. 27 Sam’s Club Honda on Monday afternoon at the 1.33-mile concrete oval.
