Dave Portnoy’s Barstool Sports could play key role as Diana Russini plots sports media return

Diana Russini is reportedly getting ready to come back to the world of sports media and the NFL. As per the rumours, Dave Portnoy and Barstool Sports are leading the race to acquire her services.

NFL insider Diana Russini was involved in quite a big scandal after questions were raised about her relationship with former Tennessee Titans and current New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel.

Russini was working as a senior NFL reporter for The Athletic when the story broke. She was let go in the aftermath, and an internal investigation found there had been a ‘clear violation’ of company standards.

However, a romantic relationship was not confirmed by the investigation either. And now it seems Russini is planning a comeback, with a popular media figure among the frontrunners to help her make it happen.

Russini has formerly worked at ESPN and The Athletic, and is one of the most experienced voices in the NFL media. She has every tool available to be an asset for whichever company gets her.

And as per the latest report by Front Office Sports, she has been in several discussions regarding opportunities. However, the biggest offer is reportedly set to come from Barstool Sports and Dave Portnoy.

“Dianna Russini is ‘absolutely’ planning a comeback to sports media,” the report says.. “The former senior NFL insider for The Athletic has been in discussions about several new job opportunities, ranging from pro football insider to opinionist/personality, say sources.

“Russini hasn’t decided on her next play. But with the kickoff of the new pro football season only six days away, the former ESPN reporter is expected to make her move sooner rather than later.”

“The lead candidate to hire Russini, I’m hearing, is Dave Portnoy’s Barstool Sports. She’s friends with the company’s two biggest on-air talents: Pardon My Take hosts Dan “Big Cat” Katz and PFT Commenter.

“She appeared frequently on their pod. The Jersey native has the kind of funny, entertaining personality that meshes with Barstool’s irreverent approach.”

Russini has worked with some of sports media’s most serious and formal outfits. After what she has been through in the past year, a gig with Barstool being able to speak her mind freely might not be the worst idea for her.
