Dana White stopped his son from getting an American flag tattoo after UFC Freedom 250

Dana White’s son wanted to mark America’s historic celebration with something a bit more lasting.

On Sunday, the sport staged its biggest card ever, with UFC Freedom 250 taking place on the South Lawn of the White House.

In a huge shock, Justin Gaethje stopped Ilia Topuria in the fourth round to claim the undisputed lightweight title.

The event had American fans feeling extremely patriotic, especially as ‘The Highlight’ was being widely counted out by the majority of the MMA world.

Why Dana White talked his son out of an American Flag tattoo

There were a few obstacles along the way, but things couldn’t have gone better for Dana White and his team.

With it being such a big occasion, everyone was feeling patriotic, including White’s son.

In fact, his eldest son was so caught up in the excitement that he almost went ahead with a tattoo of the American flag across his back. The UFC ended up talking him out of it.

“My oldest son hits me up today and says, ‘Dad, don’t fight with me, don’t argue with me, but I want a tattoo of the American flag on my back,'” White said in an interview with TMZ Sports.

“I said, ‘You’re not tattooing the American flag on your back, I’ll buy you an American flag shirt in every colour, and you can wear it every day for the rest of your life; you’re not tattooing the flag.’

He added: “But that is what I was hoping to get out of this experience. For young people and just everybody, I was looking for some unity and people to be proud on the 250th birthday of America.”

The price tag for hosting at such a historic venue wasn’t small either. The event reportedly cost $60 million to put together though estimates suggest it could end up being even higher when all is said and done.
