Dana White and Joe Rogan aren’t seeing eye-to-eye over the upcoming UFC event at the White House.

Joe Rogan has been firmly opposed to the event ever since it was first announced. His initial criticism centred around the timing, as news of the fights broke during rising conflict in the Middle East.

And more recently, Rogan took issue with the decision to hold title fights outdoors, arguing that weather and other factors shouldn’t play a role in such important matches.

But White believes Rogan is completely missing why this is such a big deal for MMA, calling it “the greatest thing that’s ever happened” for the sport.

White pushes back on Rogan’s ‘gimmick’ comments, backs Pereira’s title chase

Asked if he’d be on commentary, Rogan confirmed he would be, but dismissed the event as a “gimmick.”

Rogan’s remarks found an unlikely supporter in Donald Trump, though for reasons of his own.

Dana White has now pushed back against that label, arguing that there is more at stake than people are giving it credit for.

“Joe Rogan is a grown man who has his own opinions,” White said during a recent interview with Forbes.

“I don’t call him and say, ‘What are you saying?’, different people that work for me, not as high profile as Joe Rogan, who probably have some concerns about a lot of things in doing this event.

“Whatever Joe Rogan’s opinions are, he said something crazy like, ‘it’s a gimmick’. What is a gimmick? It’s a real fight with real stakes, Pereira possibly winning his third world title.

“If he wins the third world title that night, he jumps over Jon Jones and becomes the greatest of all time. When you talk about a gimmick, there is nothing gimmicky about this event… Every fight on that card means something… Far from a gimmick… Joe is a grown man, he can have his opinions on anything.”

Over the past few years, White has frustrated fans with his consistent claim that Jon Jones is the greatest of all time.

Pereira still needs to beat Tom Aspinall to become an undisputed champion in three divisions. For some fans, though, Jon Jones still holds the title of greatest of all time.
