Dan Quinn makes one thing perfectly clear at Commanders' minicamp

· · 1 min read

It’s been a trend in recent years for head coaches across the NFL to cut their mandatory minicamps a day short, allowing the players to go home before training camp begins the next month. Most recently, the San Francisco and Los Angeles Rams completely canceled their minicamps. The Washington Commanders will not be doing either.

Head coach Dan Quinn met with the media ahead of Day 1 of Washington’s three-day minicamp on Tuesday and was asked if he’d cut things short.

“No, we’ve done them all,” Quinn answered. “Yeah, they should not be asking you, ‘Are we going to get a bone or that?’ Like nope. Yep, we’ll be here. You might have had them off. Was that from a player, right?”

Quinn laughed when he responded, but he was serious. There has been criticism that perhaps Quinn took it too easy on the Commanders last spring and summer after such a successful 2024 season. It’s clear that Quinn understands this team needs work and reps before breaking for training camp.

Quinn has always given veteran players extra rest. That will likely continue once training camp starts. But judging from his answer about everything he’s looking for in these three days, expect training camp to be a little more physical, too.
