Dalton Knecht did not waste much time announcing his arrival in Gotham. The new New York Knicks forward brought the house down at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday, when he soared for an emphatic putback dunk off a miss from behind the arc by teammate Landry Shamet in the first half of their game against the visiting Chicago Bulls.

Here is a look at that highlight from the former Tennessee Volunteers star.

Somebody on the Bulls also forgot his defensive assignment during that play, as Chicago left Knecht wide open with no one boxing him out for a potential offensive rebound. The Knicks appeared to rotate well on that play, as Shamet also found himself open, with a Bulls defender coming in very late to challenge his shot.

The 25-year-old Knecht was a first-round pick by the Los Angeles Lakers in 2024, but his role and playing time with LA greatly diminished, especially following a failed trade that would have sent him to the Charlotte Hornets ahead of the 2025 NBA trade deadline. He was also sent by the Lakers to the NBA G League.

Knecht’s time with Los Angeles finally ended in October, when the Lakers waived him before he signed a two-way deal with the reigning NBA champions Knicks.

To make space on the roster for Knecht, the Knicks waived former Kansas Jayhawks star Kevin McCullar Jr.

A fresh start with the Knicks gives Knecht a chance to reignite his NBA career, and that dunk seemed like a great way for him to begin a new chapter.
