Cowboys signing takes them out of the market for Joey Porter Jr.

The latest rumors on the Pittsburgh Steelers and cornerback Joey Porter Jr. identified three teams as potential trade partners. This included the Detroit Lions, New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys. According to NFL reporter Jordan Schultz, the Dallas Cowboys are signing veteran Alex Austin. The addition of Austin, who is only 25 years old, likely takes the Cowboys out of the running for Porter Jr. via a trade.

Porter Jr. and Pittsburgh were unable to agree on terms for a contract extension this offseason and hasn’t played in the team’s first three games. The Steelers square off with the Cleveland Browns on Thursday Night Football and so far, Porter Jr. has been a full participant through two workouts and if he plays, would give the Steelers a huge boost in a banged up secondary.
