Cowboys' mysterious DT deployment plans, this UDFA wants to crack code

The Dallas Cowboys made a concerted effort to bolster their defensive trenches this offseason, and that extended to the UDFA period following the 2026 NFL Draft. During the free agent period, the club brought in veteran Otito Ogbonnia to rotate at the nose tackle position with Kenny Clark. The team already had Jay Toia, who had trouble cracking the lineup as a rookie under a the old regime.

The 4i spot saw the team sign Johnathan Bullard in free agency and then draft LT Overton out of Alabama. The new regime needed some blood to rotate with star Quinnen Williams as the heavy three-technique and to do that they looked to bring in help . Following their prototypical draft haul, the Cowboys hadn’t nabbed a true, old-school, defensive tackle. Enter Tommy Dunn from Kansas, who joined as an undrafted free agent.

Contract: Three-year contract (2026), $3.1 million

2025 Base Salary: $885,000, $45,000 guarantees

It’s unknown how many defensive tackles the Cowboys will carry on their initial 53-man roster following August training camp. Dunn fits as a player who can man both the A and B gap, and produce as both a part-time pass rusher but primarily a run stuffer.
