Countdown to Kickoff: What is the floor for the rebuilt Longhorns OL?

We are just 58 days away from Texas football taking the field once again. The question most Texas Longhorn fans have is surrounding the offensive line. Last season, that was the unit that let the offense down and kept Texas from a third-consecutive CFP berth. Today, I’ll do my best to figure out what the “floor” for this unit is, excluding injuries. 

This is far from an easy task. The offensive line is a tough position to nail down before the season. That being said, it’s rather objective that Texas has at least three starters with NFL first round potential. Offensive tackle Trevor Goosby could’ve gone within the first three rounds last season and could be OT1 this season.

A look at the projected #Texas OL on paper for 2026.

RG Brandon Baker – former 5-star HS prospect, returning starter

Melvin Siani, if Texas fulfills its goals this season, could join Goosby in the first round next April. Finally, Brandon Baker finished last season strong and consistently gets talked about among top prospects in the 2028 draft.

Now, that’s just three of the spots. As Texas fans saw a season ago, all it takes is one spot being a problem for the entire unit to suffer. At center, Connor Robertson is entering his third-year starting(2023 & 2025) and fifth year in the Texas program. Finally, Laurence Seymore joins at the position of need, left guard. He’s entering his sixth year of college football, coming off a season where he earned All-American Second Team(Phil Steele).

It’s impossible to say how good this offensive line will be this season. If you asked me this time last year, I’d likely project a stronger season than Texas ended up getting. However, I believe Melvin Siani’s addition makes him and Goosby one of the best(maybe the best) OT duos in the country. Brandon Baker and Connor Robertson finished last season very strong and could build off that this year. Laurence Seymore, the biggest question mark, is at least an experienced, strong pass blocking option. 

All that being said, I really do think this offensive line has a relatively high floor. There are areas they could struggle but compared to last season, the overall ability across the board is much stronger. Having three first-round talents next to two experienced, confident players gives me confidence for this unit. I won’t say anything with absolute confidence until after the Ohio State game but I’d be willing to bet the Texas offensive line is “fixed” this season.
