Conor McGregor: Khabib 'done nothing in the sport,' Makhachev greater

Conor McGregor continues to go off on Khabib Nurmagomedov’s legacy.

McGregor (22-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC) was submitted by Nurmagomedov in their lightweight title fight at UFC 229, which was the highest-selling pay-per-view in company history.

Their bad blood spilt over when they brawled immediately after the fight, and McGregor jumped at the opportunity to take a shot at Nurmagomedov (29-0 MMA, 13-0 UFC) when discussing the greatest fighters of all time.

“The guy done nothing in the sport,” McGregor told Complex. “Thirteen fights he’s had in the company, that’s it, and three against ‘name’ opponents. He had a fight against me. I was off the yacht. I was doing bad things on a yacht. I was partying heavily, and I was up to my eyeballs in court cases and all of this. I hadn’t fought in two years. I was worth $200 million and I come back and fight this f*cking guy.

“I done four rounds with him. I had a broken toe. I’m sure you seen the Netflix show where I broke my f*cking foot three weeks before the bout. This guy’s nothing. Then where is he now also? He’s gone. So I don’t rate him at all. No courage. The man has no courage. The man has succumbed to his pain and it is a damn shame. I have nothing to say to him, nothing to say about him. I don’t rate him.”

McGregor, a former UFC dual-champion, discredited Nurmagomedov’s record pre-UFC, and criticized him for never attempting to go up a weight division.

“Never fought, missed weight, never fought above weight divisions,” McGregor said. “Three fights, no stoppages, no knockouts. Come on, man. How many knockouts has he got? Three or four? You must be mad if I’m going to waste my fcking time watching this sht. His first half of his work was fighting in his father’s shows in the middle of nowhere in wherever they’re from. He’s like 12-0, the opponent he’s fighting is 0-0. This isn’t boxing. I don’t rate him.”

McGregor considers former lightweight champion and current UFC welterweight champ Islam Makhachev (28-1 MMA, 17-1 UFC) above Nurmagomedov in the greatest fighters of all time conversation.

“He’s above Khabib,” McGregor said. “Finishes, body of work, both divisions. For sure he is. Still in it, still at it. People are impressionable talking to him to get out of it. There’s a lot left in that boy, and he should recognize that and keep going. I have him above both his teammates.”

McGregor returns to rematch Max Holloway (27-9 MMA, 23-9 UFC) in Saturday’s UFC 329 welterweight main event at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas (Paramount+).
