You can bank on the fact that Jayden Daniels knows what Patrick Mahomes did this week.

The third-year Washington Commanders quarterback enters the third year of his rookie contract. Meanwhile, the Kansas City Chiefs veteran quarterback agreed with the Chiefs on a contract extension. Think about this: the upcoming season is 2026. Well, on Wednesday, the Chiefs made sure Mahomes is their man through the 2033 season. That’s eight seasons more of Patrick Mahomes wearing the Kansas City red.

More important to Mahomes and yes, Daniels is the fact that the contract extension is worth $504.75 million. Yes, you read that correctly, $504,750,000! The NFL now has a starting quarterback with a contract of over half a billion dollars! Can’t you imagine Jayden Daniels’ agent picking up the phone and calling him to tell Jayden about Mahomes’ new contract extension?

Oh, wait, you didn’t forget, did you? Jayden Daniels’ agent is his mother, Regina Jackson. Daniels had been previously represented by agent Ron Daniels before his mother, Regina, became Jayden’s primary representative. Miss Regina has made it perfectly clear in the past that she is looking out for her youngin’ to get a good contract after his rookie contract expires. Hey, a good mother who loves her child is to be commended in this day and age.

If Jayden has a very good third NFL season, then the Commanders could possibly look to renew his contract next offseason. I understand coaches, media, and fans are more concerned with how Jayden plays this upcoming season. Hey, Commanders Wire is as well. Yet, we can’t be naive. If we put ourselves in Jayden’s and Regina’s shoes, can’t we understand that they can’t help but think about, and perhaps will discuss during the season, Jayden getting a new contract next offseason?

As her son’s agent, Miss Regina is already aware that Mahomes’ new contract guaranteed Mahomes $150,250,000 and that Mahomes now will average $63,093,750. Let’s all hope Jayden can remain focused on his 2026 on-field challenges, not get sidetracked by the big payday that will definitely come his way if he continues to be productive.
