Tracker season 4 is introducing a new partner for Colter Shaw. As network TV’s favorite lone-wolf, the foundation of the procedural is Justin Hartlety’s character carrying out his ground operations mostly on his own. While he is assisted by his trusted team of Reenie, Randy, and Mel, they do so remotely. Considering how vital Tracker is to CBS’s fall 2026 lineup, it’s safe to say that even after three seasons, the story format continues to work for the project.
From time to time, however, CBS would shake things up for Colter’s weekly cases by bringing in occasional allies on the ground. Some of his most prominent associates are Jensen Ackles’ Russell and Sofia Pernas’ Billie, who are both involved in Tracker season 4. Over the last couple of years, Brent Sexton’s Keaton has also provided support. That said, the ongoing cycle will introduce a brand new face into the field, as Colter gets a new partner, albeit one that he doesn’t really want to work with.
Per Deadline, Josh Holloway is set to make an appearance in an upcoming episode of Tracker, playing Luke Kelsol. The character is described as a reluctant rewardist partner for Hartley’s character, as they cross paths once their assignments get entangled. Best known for his role as James “Sawyer” Ford in the hit ABC drama Lost, Holloway was more recently in J.J. Abrams’ new HBO series Duster opposite Keith David and Rachel Hilson, and the western series, Flint.
Additional details about the upcoming Tracker story reveals that Luke “doesn’t care who the target is or why someone’s looking for them, as long as the money is right. When Luke’s current assignment becomes entwined with Colter’s, the two become uneasy partners.” Considering the way Holloway’s character handles his cases, it makes sense that Hartley’s hero is not keen on working with him. Colter doesn’t usually like getting paired with anyone, let alone someone that has a different approach to the job.
Whether Luke’s role in the highly-rated series is a one-time thing or Tracker is building him up for future appearances is uncertain at this point. That said, it’s great to see the show bringing in more interesting characters for Colter to spend time with. Despite being an ensemble, Tracker lives and dies by its titular character, but it is simply not sustainable to only rely on him, especially since CBS is sticking to its original format of separating him from the rest of his team.
Tracker has shelved some of its lingering plots in season 4, opting to focus on its procedural aspect. Holloway’s debut episode seems like it will continue that trend, which will be more interesting once it’s confirmed when the outing will release. For now, however, Hartley’s show is maintaining its weekly case focus, likely saving the big plot climaxes towards the end of the year.
