Deion Sanders is going into his fourth season as the head coach at the University of Colorado. Following a 3-9 season the year before, there are questions being asked about the safety of his job.

Sanders is entering the 2026-27 season with a lot of new personnel, having conducted a major overhaul of his staff. New defensive and offensive coordinators headline the changes across coaching positions.

And Sanders is feeling good at preseason camp in lovely Colorado Springs. As he continues to interact with his new team and set-up, he’s also had some encounters with the local wildlife!

Few people in the world have had the experiences that Coach Prime has enjoyed over the course of his legendary career. But there are still new things for the Hall of Famer.

While on his morning walk one of the days since preseason camp began on August 2, Sanders shared the story of how he came face to face with a deer.

“Black folks ain’t used to that,” Sanders said, while recalling the interaction. “Look, we made our contact, and I said, `You got it, dog.’ This you.

“It’s you. It’s your world. I don’t know nothing. I’m gone. I turned around and got up out of there.”

While the incident itself seems plenty normal, it also provides some insight into Sanders’ psyche. Others might be worried for their job, but he seems relaxed, which he also made clear to the press.

Deion Sanders claims he’s not feeling the pressure

Barring some recent issues, Sanders’ career with the Buffaloes has gone largely well. The football icon is reportedly being paid $10 million a year for his services.

And so, when asked about where his head is at in terms of feeling pressure, Deion had a confident answer ready.

“I don’t feel pressure,” Sanders told reporters. “You know how pressure is? That’s a single mama trying to make ends meet and ain’t no man in the house.

“This is football. I’m really good at this. I can play this. I can coach this. I can do this, and, you know, if you don’t believe, you don’t believe. God bless you. I need that. I like that. You put me in my comfort zone now.”

The 58-year-old has been a star since he was a teenager, he is no stranger to pressure. And for Colorado fans, this press conference indicates that Coach Prime is confident going into the new season.
