The Green Bay Packers are betting on Christian Watson’s immense potential, and the talented wide receiver appears ready to reward that faith with a breakout season following his recent contract extension.

Since being selected in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft out of North Dakota State, Watson has flashed game-changing ability whenever he has been healthy. His combination of size, speed, and athleticism has made him one of the most dangerous deep threats in the NFL, but injuries have often prevented him from reaching his full potential.

Watson has recorded 121 receptions for 2,057 yards and 18 touchdowns through his first four NFL seasons. He has averaged an impressive 17.0 yards per catch during that span, ranking among the league’s most explosive receivers. His breakout campaign came in 2023 when he totaled 61 catches for 1,012 yards and nine touchdowns while emerging as one of quarterback Jordan Love’s favorite targets.

Despite battling injuries during portions of the 2024 and 2025 seasons, Watson remained a critical piece of Green Bay’s offense. Pro Football Focus and Next Gen Stats have consistently highlighted his ability to stretch defenses vertically, forcing opponents to account for his speed on every snap.

Packers betting big on Watson

The Packers‘ decision to sign Watson to a long-term extension signals their belief that his best football is still ahead of him. With Love continuing to develop into one of the NFC’s top quarterbacks and head coach Matt LaFleur operating one of the league’s most creative offenses, Watson is positioned to thrive.

Green Bay enters the 2026 season with playoff aspirations and one of the NFL’s youngest offensive cores. Alongside fellow playmakers Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, and tight end Luke Musgrave, Watson gives the Packers a dynamic weapon capable of changing games with a single play.

If he can stay healthy for a full season, Watson has the potential to post career-best numbers and establish himself among the NFL’s premier wide receivers. For both Watson and the Packers, 2026 could be the season everything comes together.
