Christian Scott Among Best Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Targets For Week 20

The MLB trade deadline coming next week could change the roles for some players across the leagues. Some might be thrust into more playing time, while others could land in more fantasy-friendly situations. As we wait for that to play out, we can still make some moves on the waiver wire to fortify our squads. Let’s highlight five players to consider adding who are still available in the majority of Yahoo leagues.

Urena held the Astros in check during his last start, allowing one run over six innings. That marked his fourth straight outing in which he allowed one or no runs. He now has a 2.70 ERA that is backed by a 3.27 xERA. His 21.9% strikeout rate isn’t great, but he limits damage by allowing only 0.6 HR/9. Not only is he worth adding for his start against the Marlins next week, but he could be someone to hold onto for the stretch run.

Holmes (lower leg) has been sidelined since the middle of May, but has already embarked on a rehab assignment. On Tuesday, he threw 59 pitches in his latest outing. He appears to be nearing a return, but he might not be a member of the Mets when he does. The team figures to be sellers at the deadline and Holmes is certainly someone that a few contending teams would want on their roster. With his career 3.53 ERA and 3.66 xERA, he’s someone to consider adding now before he is officially activated off the injured list.

Unlike Holmes, the Mets likely have plans to keep Scott in their starting rotation for years to come. He has pitched well of late, giving up one or no runs in three of his last four starts. He misses a lot of bats, recording a 28.8% strikeout rate for the season. Another positive is that he has limited opponents to just a 34.2% hard-hit rate. Scott is lined up to start against the Guardians and Pirates next week, making him one of the top streaming targets to consider.

After a brief rough patch, Montgomery has ranked up his production at the plate lately. Across his last 14 games, he is 15-for-52 (.288) with a .373 OBP, 12 RBI, and eight runs scored. During that stretch, he had a 10.2% walk rate to go along with his 18.6% strikeout rate. While he doesn’t have a ton of power, he showed an ability to hit for a high average and draw walks in the minors. He can still be a fantasy asset, especially for managers who play in OBP leagues.

The Yankees are limping towards the trade deadline with Aaron Judge (ribs), Giancarlo Stanton (calf), and Clay Bellinger (hamstring) all out. None of them are close to returning, so the team might be forced to add help in the outfield. If they don’t, we could see a lot of Jones. He has trouble making contact, but when he does, the ball generally goes a long way. Over 54 games a Triple-A this year, he hit 14 home runs. He has gone deep three times with the Yankees, and he even has three steals. In deeper formats, Jones could be worth taking a chance on.
