Christian Eriksen’s contract at Wolfsburg terminated

Wolfsburg have confirmed the termination of Christian Eriksen’s contract by mutual consent.

This comes three months after Eriksen collapsed on the pitch while playing for Denmark.

The incident led to the friendly match against Ukraine being called off.

Eriksen has not played since he collapsed during the match, while the German club has already had six fixtures in the new season.

They have now announced Eriksen has left the club to be closer to his family in Denmark.

In a statement, Eriksen said: “Right now, it’s important for me to be close to my family in Denmark.

“I’m happy that we were able to find a solution together. My time in Wolfsburg was marked by many highs and lows.

“I know that the club is now in good hands to make the journey back to the Bundesliga, and I’m convinced that VfL has a successful future ahead of it.”

After he was released by Manchester United, Eriksen signed for Wolfsburg in September 2025 on an initial two-year deal.

He went on to make 34 appearances for the club last season, scoring three goals and providing 10 assists, as the club was relegated from the Bundesliga.
