Chris Olave Injury Update: Saints WR’s Week 5 Status In Question

· · 2 min read

Chris Olave left the Saints Week 4 loss late after taking a shot to the knees, and reports directly after the game indicated the wide receiver will be ok and dodged a long-term injury. However, that doesn’t mean he won’t miss any time. Originally selected in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the Ohio State product quickly established himself as the team’s go-to option in the passing attack. Debuting with a 1,000-yard season, Olave has battled multiple injuries throughout his career but has been the top receiver whenever healthy. This trend continued with former second-round pick Tyler Shough under center, as Olave finished Week 1 with 10 receptions for 182 yards on 13 targetsa s the Saints almost pulled off an improbable comeback. He continued his hot start and enters Week 5 with 35 receptions for 491 yards and one touchdown.

The late injury forced him out of the final few minutes of the Saints loss, and he did not participate in Wednesday’s practice. According to the team’s official report, both he and running back Alvin Kamara did not suit up on Wednesday, but we do not know what their game status will be for Sunday.

The New Orleans Saints need Chris Olave on the field to keep their playoff hopes alive, so this is great news for the organization. At 1-3, the team is only one game out of first place in the NFC South, and while the defense has some work to do, the offense has been largely promising throughout the young season. With first-round pick Jordyn Tyson still working his way back from an injury, Olave has served as the team’s unquestioned go-to option, and will remain the leader of the passing attack as long as he’s on the field.

While Chris Olave did not practice on Wednesday, it will be worth monitoring his status as the week continues. The Saints face the 4-0 Minnesota Vikings in Week 5, and they’ll need Olave on the field to pull off the upset.
