Chiefs' Travis Kelce passes Tony Gonzalez for NFL TE receiving record
Travis Kelce stands alone.
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end has topped another former Chief, Tony Gonzalez, by setting a new record for most receiving yards by a tight end in NFL history – including the playoffs. And he did it on the big stage of “Sunday Night Football” against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 7.
Kelce broke the record on his third reception of the game, which occurred in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s contest. Here’s how it looked:

Kelce entered the night needing just 35 yards to surpass Gonzalez, who finished his 17-year career with 15,413 receiving yards. Of that, 15,127 came in the regular season and 286 were recorded in the playoffs.
The 37-year-old Kelce began Week 7 with 15,379 receiving yards – 13,301 in the regular season and 2,078 in the playoffs.
Kelce was clearly able to benefit from extended postseason action, playing in 25 playoff games through his first 13 seasons. Gonzalez played in just seven. Luckily for Kelce, he can add to the record throughout the rest of the regular season and Kansas City’s playoff games – provided the Chiefs make it.
There has been no indication the No. 87 plans to retire after the season, so it’s not entirely out of the question that Kelce could hunt down Gonzalez’s regular season record, even if it’s not likely at this stage.
For now, he’ll enjoy owning another piece of NFL history.
