Chelsea need to answer big question about full back’s future as PSG, Juventus and Tottenham join race

Chelsea need to ask themselves if their intention is to sell Malo Gusto or not as potential suitor are put off by the price.

Our writer Simon Phillips has an interesting piece out today on his Substack about Malo Gusto.

The full back has been linked with moves away from Chelsea this summer, but nothing concrete has come up. Manchester City were linked most strongly, but the massive asking price put on the Frenchman is putting off any bids for him.

Gustos’ value will only fall with time out of the team

The most crucial piece of information in there is the list of clubs who have expressed interest in Gusto. Manchester City had been established already. But also named are Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Tottenham, PSG and Juventus.

It doesn’t matter how many teams are interested, however, if the price remains at £75m. Nobody is going to pay that, or anything close to that. Maybe that’s the point, and Chelsea want to discourage bids. But to us, even getting £50m or £60m for Gusto would be a decent deal, given we’ve bought Marco Palestra for a similar amount.

Gusto’s value is only going to fall if he spends a year on the bench behind Palestra and Reece James.
