Chelsea join Arsenal in race for 23-year-old England rising star

· · 2 min read

Arsenal have already tested Bayer Leverkusen’s resolve over Jarell Quansah, but Chelsea’s interest could make the defender’s future even more complicated.

The 23-year-old has established himself as an important player in Germany since leaving Liverpool, and his performances have attracted interest from several major European clubs.

Jarell Quansah attracts Arsenal and Chelsea interest

Arsenal are believed to have made a €65 million proposal for the England international during the summer transfer window, but Leverkusen turned down the approach.

The decision did not discourage Mikel Arteta’s side, who continue to monitor the centre-back ahead of another potential opportunity. Quansah has developed significantly since moving to the Bundesliga, and his progress has made him an attractive option for clubs looking to strengthen their defence.

Chelsea have now entered the picture as well, with reports (h/t SportWitness) indicating that the Blues have initiated contact regarding a possible move. It remains unclear whether they approached the player’s representatives, Leverkusen, or both.

The London giants could face competition from Liverpool and Real Madrid, both of whom are also keeping a close eye on the defender’s situation.

Quansah faces uncertain future

Quansah joined Leverkusen from Liverpool last summer in a deal worth €35 million and enjoyed much more playing time after moving to Germany.

He featured 44 times last season, accumulating more than 3,700 minutes, while his performances also helped him earn international recognition with England.

Liverpool retain a buyback option that could become relevant next summer, while Real Madrid are reportedly monitoring his development closely.

Leverkusen have the defender under contract until 2030, meaning they remain in a strong negotiating position. However, with Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Madrid all showing interest, Quansah’s future could become one of the more intriguing transfer stories to follow ahead of 2027.

For now, Arsenal remain interested after their previous offer was rejected, while Chelsea’s approach adds another serious contender to the race.
