Charli Cannon wins Ironman WMX Moto 1, trims eight points off Lachlan Turner's lead

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Indiana: Charli Cannon led the WMX Series from the gate drop to the checkers in Moto 1 of the Ironman Nationals and dominated the first race of the season finale.

Combined with a fifth-place finish for the championship leader, Lachlan Turner, Cannon kept Turner from clinching her third title with one race remaining.

Cannon earned the holeshot over Turner and set the pace. Turner closed the gap to as much as half a second in the opening three laps as the two riders separated from the crowd, but at the race hit the midway point, it became obvious that this race would be different than many that preceded it.

Cannon has said repeatedly that she needs to work on her aggression and she stretched her advantage to 1.5 seconds at the midway point.

After the race, Cannon told NBC Sports, “I wasn’t surprised because that’s what I’m capable of in practice, but it felt good to do it in race conditions. I just have to repeat it tomorrow.”

Turner was forced to react to Cannon’s speed, and she nearly crashed on Lap 5. She survived that incident and remained second, but while trying to make up a more sizeable gap of more than 15 seconds, she crashed one lap later and fell to sixth.

Turner regained one position, but finished a distant fifth.

Making her WMX debut with Wildcat Racing, Spanish rider Daniella Guillen finished second. She is one of several international racers trying her hand at the WMX and quickly adjusted to the competition, passing Mayla Herrick for third on the opening lap.

With Turner’s crash, Guillen moved into second with two laps remaining.

Herrick scored her third podium and fifth top-five in seven motos since she debuted with a Moto win on her 17th birthday at High Point.

In fourth, Brady Richards scored her first top-five of 2026 and her best result of the season. She was sixth last weekend in the Budds Creek National.

Only three points separated three riders battling for third in championship points entering the Ironman National.

Entering third in the championship, Taylah got a bad start and was forced to climb through the pack. She eventually made her way into ninth.

Jordan Jarvis finished the best among this trio with a sixth-place finish after getting passed by Turner on the final lap.

Mikayla Nielsen was one position further back in seventh.
