Niamh Charles is raring to go with Manchester City, following her arrival from Chelsea.

City have reportedly paid £500,000 for Charles, who has put pen to paper on a three-year deal with the Women’s Super League champions.

The England international spent six years with the Blues, making 173 appearances in that time and winning 12 major honours.

She was part of the Chelsea team that won five straight WSL titles under Emma Hayes and Sonia Bompastor, while she also won four FA Cups and the Women’s League Cup three times.

Charles made just 11 WSL appearances in 2025-26, though, and she is keen to get more gametime ahead of next year’s Women’s World Cup.

The full-back previously made two appearances as England finished as World Cup runners-up in 2023, then featured five times during their Euro 2025 success.

“[It’s] really exciting. I’m really happy to be here. I’ve had a great day meeting everyone and seeing the facilities. I can’t wait to get started,” she told City’s website.

“I’ve seen from the outside and obviously played against them during the year and the past few years.

“They’ve had great success this year. And I think what they’re building as a team, the players and the staff… it’s something I want to be a part of.

“It suits me and fits me, the culture they’re building and the style of play. I just think it’s the perfect fit and, hopefully, we can have some good times together.”

City ended their 10-year wait for a WSL title in 2025-26, finishing four points clear of Arsenal.

Charles is their latest big signing, after they also brought in Beth Mead, who left Arsenal at the end of her contract.

They also secured Khadija Shaw’s signature for another four years, after it had looked like she was set to leave on a free transfer.
