Chargers' Mike McDaniel sends message to fantasy owners about TE room
Chargers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel took a moment during Thursday’s press conference to address fantasy football owners.
With Week 1 approaching, McDaniel cautioned fantasy owners against overreacting to the Chargers’ tight end room.
“Might not be the smartest move to just make all your fantasy decisions after week one, because they’re gonna grow as players and we’re gonna be able to do a lot with them,” McDaniel said.
The Chargers have three tight ends on their roster who they have full confidence in.
Entering Week 1 against the Cardinals, their No. 1 tight end is their newest signing, Charlie Kolar.
Kolar signed with the Chargers in March 2026, signing a three-year, $24 million deal. He is known for his elite blocking and reliable hands as a pass-catcher. Kolar is set to make his presence known and help elevate the running back room.
Their other newest signing, David Njoku, is expected to play a vital role in McDaniel’s offense. He brings a different skill set than Kolar.
Njoku has elite athletic traits and is explosive after the catch. His versatility should allow McDaniel to move him around the formation and create mismatches.
As for Oronde Gadsden, he is entering his second season in the league and could be a critical piece for the Chargers’ offense. His blocking isn’t there, especially compared to Kolar; however, Gadsden has elite hands and is versatile.
It’ll be interesting to see how McDaniel uses all three of his tight ends, and if any of them will have soeme fantasy value as the season progresses.
