Chargers' Mike McDaniel has one hilarious request for Maxx Crosby

Chargers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel had a simple request for Raiders edge rusher Maxx Crosby ahead of their Week 2 matchup: take it easy on them.

McDaniel spoke to the media Tuesday and jokingly said he’d appreciate it if Crosby took a nap during the game.

“He is relentless, and I enjoy the challenge, but it would be cool if he was tired and wanted to take a nap,” McDaniel said.

McDaniel also praised the All-Pro edge rusher, calling him one of the more relentless players he’s faced.

“You talk about one of the guys I respect the absolute most,” McDaniel said. He is upper echelon because of his relentless drive and competitiveness, play in and play out. It’s almost unmatched.

“He’s a professional game-wrecker.”

Crosby, 29, has faced the Chargers 13 times in his seven-year career before 2026. In those games, he has certainly made his mark, recording 36 solo tackles, 8.5 sacks, and one forced fumble.McDaniel will certainly have his hands full as the Raiders will look to start the season 2-0 and drop the Chargers to 0-2 for the first time since 2023.

The Cardinals sacked the Chargers three times in Week 1. Crosby and the Raiders will try to match that, facing elite tackles Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt.

Crosby presents a multitude of challenges due to his relentless motor, high snap counts, elite pass-rush, and run-stopping productivity. His resume speaks for itself, as he’s a five-time Pro Bowler and two-time Second-team All-Pro.

The Chargers have started 0-2 only 13 times in their history, and they’ve made the playoffs only twice, losing in the divisional round both times.
