Chargers' Charlie Kolar to undergo surgery for broken forearm

Chargers tight end Charlie Kolar will undergo surgery on his broken forearm.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler shared the news via X.

Head coach Jim Harbaugh said on Monday that Kolar, along with fellow tight end David Njoku, will be placed on the injured reserve.

Kolar was spotted with his left arm in a sling following Sunday’s loss to the Raiders. The injury was severe enough to land him on the IR and now warrants surgery.

That said, Kolar is expected to return after his IR stint ends after Week 6. Kolar is eligible to return for Week 8 when the Chargers take on the Rams on Nov. 1.

Kolar has not been much involved in the Chargers’ offense thus far. Through two games, Kolar has recorded three receptions for 21 yards.

With Kolar and Njoku ruled out for the next few weeks, the Chargers added Hayden Rucci to the active roster.

Prior to adding Rucci, Oronde Gadsden was the only active tight end on the roster.

Gadsden will serve as the primary tight end moving forward. He is expected to play most snaps and play a major role in Mike McDaniel’s offense.

The Chargers sit at 0-2 and will play their first road game of the season Sunday against the Buffalo Bills.
