CF Montréal and Vancouver Whitecaps FC are deadlocked at 1-1 heading into the decisive Leg 2 of their 2026 Canadian Championship semifinal series on Wednesday evening.

Should the aggregate score remain tied after 90 minutes, the semifinal will proceed to extra time and, if necessary, a penalty shootout.

The winner advances to the tournament final on Oct. 21 against Forge FC or Supra du Québec, where a berth in the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup is up for grabs.

Montréal opened the scoring in Leg 1 with a long-range golazo from midfielder Dani Pereira, who was acquired this summer from Austin FC.

Now, they’re one win away from reaching the club’s first Canadian Championship final since 2023. Montréal last won the tournament in 2021 and have lifted the Voyageurs Cup five times.

Montréal’s tournament dreams contrast with their MLS form; the club currently sit last in the Eastern Conference with a -20 goal differential.

Despite that, Prince Owusu is among the league’s top scorers this season with 13g/5a. Chilean legend Alexis Sánchez joins the Ghanaian striker in attack.

Vancouver Whitecaps FC

• Quarterfinals: 5-2 aggregate win vs. Calvary FC

Vancouver are four-time defending champions, dominating the tournament while also emerging as one of MLS’s top teams.

The Whitecaps are currently first in the Western Conference and have a three-point lead over their closest challengers (Houston, Dallas) with a game in hand.

But after Ryan Gauld clawed back a 1-1 draw in Leg 1 of this semifinal series, there’s all to play for on Wednesday night.

Vancouver could also be without star midfielder Thomas Müller, who is nursing a quad injury. The German legend has 14 goal contributions (7g/7a) this season.
