Once payment has been confirmed, applicants can upload the required supporting documents.

The Ministry requires uploaded documents to be clear and legible. Applicants should therefore scan their certificates and other supporting documents properly rather than submitting blurred photographs or incomplete copies.

The number of pages uploaded must also correspond with the number declared during the application and payment stage.

For WAEC and NECO results, the Ministry says verification is conducted online through the relevant examination bodies’ systems using a valid scratch-card PIN purchased by the applicant. The portal provides guidance on this at the appropriate stage of the application.
Your institution must send the transcript directly
One of the most important parts of the process concerns academic transcripts.

Applicants should not upload or personally send transcripts where the Ministry requires an official transcript from the awarding institution.

Instead, the applicant must contact the institution where the qualification was obtained and request that the official transcript be sent directly to the Ministry’s designated email address from the institution’s official email account.

For current applications, the ESSVerify portal states that evaluation transcripts should be sent to ess.evaluation@ess.education.gov.ng, while authentication transcripts should be sent to ess.authentication@ess.education.gov.ng. The portal specifically warns that transcripts sent by applicants or from personal email accounts such as Gmail, Yahoo or Outlook will not be accepted.

Applicants should also provide their application number to the awarding institution and ask the institution to include the number in the email subject so that the transcript can be correctly matched with the application.

The portal further states that transcripts should be sent as PDF files and must not exceed 10MB.
What happens after the application is submitted?
The process does not end immediately after documents are uploaded.

For applications requiring institutional transcripts, the Ministry begins checking the documents after it receives and accepts the transcript from the awarding institution.

Applicants can track the progress of their applications through the portal and receive email updates as the process advances.

This means applicants should monitor both their ESSVerify account and the email address associated with the application for further instructions or updates.

The Federal Ministry of Education says the move to a fully online system is intended to simplify the process, reduce processing delays, improve data management and strengthen the credibility of academic credential verification.
What applicants should remember
The most important thing is to use the correct service and follow the instructions on the official portal carefully. A person seeking recognition of a Nigerian qualification for use abroad should apply for authentication, while someone with a foreign qualification who needs it recognised for use in Nigeria should generally apply for evaluation.

Applicants should also ensure that their uploaded documents are clear, declare the correct number of pages, make payment through the approved Remita channels and ensure that any required transcript is sent directly by the awarding institution.

Most importantly, applicants no longer need to travel to the Federal Ministry of Education for physical verification. The Ministry’s current guidance states that the authentication and evaluation process is conducted online through the ESSVerify platform.

The shift to digital processing is expected to make academic credential verification more accessible, while giving employers, educational institutions and other organisations a more reliable way of confirming qualifications.
