The Boston Celtics have reshaped more than their roster ahead of the 2026-27 season.
Boston unveiled new uniforms as the organization prepares to introduce offseason additions Paul George, Mike Conley and Mitchell Robinson before training camp. The developments were highlighted in CelticsBlog’s Sept. 12 news roundup.
Uniform announcements do not determine championships. They can still mark a clear transition point for a franchise entering a dramatically different season.
Celtics Are Beginning New Era
George’s arrival changed Boston’s identity.
Here is the new “Specter” alternate uniform that the Celtics (and seven other teams) will wear this season. Basically a watered-down version of those crazy MLB jerseys from 1998. https://t.co/N2rmxmvGIfpic.twitter.com/X2M4oe15RY

The Celtics no longer are simply adjusting around the edges of an established core. They are incorporating a nine-time All-Star whose scoring and defensive versatility will influence lineups, late-game responsibilities and expectations. Conley brings organization and experience to the backcourt. Robinson adds size and rim protection.
Boston’s new look on the court therefore extends well beyond colors and design. The upcoming introductions will give the players their first formal opportunity to explain why the Celtics appealed to them and how they view their roles. George’s comments will receive the most attention, particularly after Boston’s decision to move on from Jaylen Brown.
The most useful answers will concern basketball rather than ceremony. How does George expect to share creation duties? Where does he believe he can help Jayson Tatum most? How will Boston manage the workload of veterans with extensive injury histories?

Training Camp Questions Are Approaching
Training camp begins Sept. 28, leaving the Celtics limited time to transform an intriguing roster into a connected team.
New uniforms can create excitement. Chemistry requires considerably more work.
Joe Mazzulla must identify a starting lineup, determine how much responsibility Conley can handle and build defensive continuity around Robinson. Boston also must decide which younger guards deserve minutes behind its established veterans.
The Celtics still possess enough talent to contend. Their challenge is making a collection of accomplished players function without asking each to reproduce the role he held elsewhere. The uniform reveal supplies a visual symbol for that change.
Soon, Boston will introduce the players expected to make the new era successful. The real evaluation begins when those uniforms appear together on the practice court.
