Celtic aim subtle Rangers dig after Callum Wright’s dramatic Hibs winner
Celtic’s social media team could not resist a subtle dig at Rangers following Derek McInnes’ side’s 2-1 defeat to Hibernian.
While the Hoops cruised to an emphatic victory away to Kilmarnock, McInnes endured a miserable first competitive game in the Ibrox dugout as Hibernian claimed a dramatic win.
Josh Campbell fired the visitors ahead before Jordan Obita’s late own goal appeared to have rescued Rangers a point.
The hosts then went searching for a winner, only to be punished at the other end when Callum Wright struck in stoppage time to secure all three points for Hibs.
The result leaves Rangers languishing in ninth place and already five points adrift of Celtic in the Premiership standings.
There were no such problems for Shaun Maloney’s men in Ayrshire as they produced a dominant display at Rugby Park.
Summer signing Kasper Høgh stole the show by completing a stunning hat-trick inside the opening 35 minutes, while Benjamin Nygren and Luke McCowan were also on target.
Michael Larsen grabbed a consolation for Kilmarnock, but it did little to take the shine off an impressive afternoon for the champions.
Celtic then appeared to have some fun at Rangers’ expense when promoting their latest ‘On the Road’ highlights package on social media.
With Hibs match-winner Wright having just inflicted defeat on their city rivals, the Hoops account posted: “Sundays done (W)right. Relive the best of #KILCEL, @Celtic_Player went ‘On the Road’ in Ayrshire. Watch in full on YouTube.”
The carefully-worded reference was quickly picked up by supporters, with the post attracting thousands of likes and shares within an hour.
