CBS announcer says official missed Bengals-Jaguars final-drive penalty
With the Cincinnati Bengals driving down the field late in the fourth quarter of their 22-17 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, CBS analysts thought officials missed a pass-interference penalty on an incomplete pass on first down at the Jags’ 21 from Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow to receiver Dohnte Meyers.
Jaguars cornerback Jarrian Jones was in coverage.
“That’s gotta be pass interference, right?” play-by-play announcer Tom McCarthy said during the broadcast.
“I thought he was there just a little early,” analyst Robert Turbin replied. “He got there just a little bit early.”
“That’s gotta be pass interference,” McCarthy added. “That’s a break for the Jags.”
Late in the first half, McCarthy and Turbin thought Jones could’ve been penalized for DPI for holding Bengals receiver Tee Higgins on a long pass attempt by Burrow.
Earlier in the game, Jones grabbed Bengals receiver Ja’Marr Chase’s facemask on the play that injured Chase.
