The Cardinals’ Carson Beck takes one stepArizona Cardinals drafted Carson Beck in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft. So far, he has not factored into their plans for the 2026 NFL season. He has served as the emergency third quarterback every game this year. This could be changing, however.

The Cardinals were blown out by the Detroit Lions in Week 5. Arizona is now 1-4 on the season, and there doesn’t seem to be a ton of optimism right now. Head coach Mike LaFleur was recently asked about potentially elevating Beck to see what he has.

“Right now, Gardner (Minshew) is our backup. But if we feel like (Beck being available is) going to give us our best chance to be successful on Sunday, then we’ll certainly have those discussions,” LaFleur said on Arizona Sports’ Burns & Gambo radio show. “Obviously, he wasn’t yesterday, but that doesn’t mean moving forward he won’t be.”

“We haven’t had those discussions. We’ll have that discussion tomorrow at about noon,” the Cardinals coach continued.

Beck is working through his first season in the NFL. He was with the Miami Hurricanes in his final season of college football. He led the Hurricanes to the National Championship Game. However, Miami lost to the Indiana Hoosiers, who captured their first National Championship in football.

As mentioned, the Cardinals have not had a great start to the 2026 NFL season. It appears as if this is going to be another lost year for Arizona. If this is the case, seeing what Beck could provide the team would be smart. Especially if he factors into the team’s long-term plans past this season.
