Can Titans OC Brian Daboll unlock Cam Ward's full potential in 2026?

· · 2 min read

The Tennessee Titans believe they have their franchise quarterback in Cam Ward. After an encouraging rookie season, expectations are growing that Ward could take a significant leap in 2026. A huge part of his progress hinges on an important offseason addition to their coaching staff.

According to ESPN, one of the biggest questions facing the Titans this season centers around that addition. Titans offensive coordinator Brian Daboll has a successful track record of developing quarterbacks, but can he help Ward reach his full potential?

Ward showed plenty of flashes during his first year in the NFL, especially during the second half of the season. His first half was marred by inconsistencies around him, with a coaching change, unreliable protection, and lackluster weapons. However, like most young quarterbacks, he also experienced growing pains while adjusting to the speed of the game.

That’s where Daboll enters the picture.

Throughout his coaching career, Daboll has worked with several successful quarterbacks and earned praise for his ability to tailor offenses to maximize their strengths. His most successful development was NFL MVP Josh Allen during his time as the offensive coordinator of the Buffalo Bills.

Rather than forcing players into a system, Daboll has consistently shown a willingness to adapt his scheme around his quarterback’s skill set, and that approach could be especially beneficial for Ward. Ward’s game is built on playmaking ability and improvisation, particularly extending plays and creating opportunities outside of structure.

The challenge for Daboll will be helping Ward maintain those strengths while improving his consistency from the pocket. Naturally, with a better supporting cast and consistent coaching, Ward should improve. If Daboll can accomplish that balance, Tennessee’s offense could become a dangerous unit.

The Titans don’t necessarily need Ward to become an MVP candidate. But if Daboll can help him take the next step toward becoming one of the AFC’s better quarterbacks, Tennessee could find itself competing for far more than just improvement in 2026.
