The Los Angeles Lakers traded up to select Cameron Carr out of Baylor. He has the perfect profile to fit alongside the superstars like Luka Doncic and LeBron James.
Carr has all the tools to become a key contributor for the Lakers. He is officially listed at 6’5″, which could mean he can play across both shooting guard and small forward at times, especially with Doncic being a bigger point guard.
Cameron Carr is embracing the pressure of playing for the Lakers
Pressure is natural when playing for the Lakers. It is one of the biggest franchises in sports, so there are a lot of expectations that come with it. Carr is one of the players considered to be a steal in 2026’s Draft, so he has to live up to that.
He has the best situation as an off-ball scorer because Doncic and Austin Reaves will be creating for him. If LeBron returns, he will also be a fantastic playmaker alongside him.

With all of these factors, Carr knows that he has to stand out to get the minutes. He has to be better on the defensive end, so he can showcase how much impact he can make as an offensive wing with his perimeter shooting and natural scoring ability.
“First things first, got to put on some weight. That’s going to be an emphasis, be in the weight room as much as possible. It’s going to be my second home,” Carr said about what he plans on doing for the 2026-27 season.
“Overall, it’s going to be exciting. I know I keep saying it and it’s repetitive, but man, y’all don’t understand how much of a joy it is and a blessing to be here in this situation. So just learn and follow in their footsteps.”
With JJ Redick as the Lakers’ head coach, Carr is in a good situation with a coach who knows how to set a shooter up for success. He has struggled to do that with Dalton Knecht, but it seems Carr has more tools to become a key contributor compared to Knecht.
