Camara ‘turned the page’ after Chelsea move collapsed

Lamine Camara has “turned the page” after his potential move to Chelsea from Monaco collapsed, with his full focus remaining on the Ligue 1 side.

Monaco were involved in two of deadline day’s most noteworthy stories, as both Camara and Folarin Balogun had looked set to leave the club, only for their moves to fall through.

Balogun had been set to join Everton before the Toffees raised issues with his medical, opening the door for Camara to potentially join Chelsea.

However, when the deal for the United States international to join Everton was renegotiated, Monaco pulled the plug on their arrangement with Chelsea, only for Balogun to then turn down the Toffees, meaning neither player left.

Camara scored three goals and registered four assists in 31 appearances in all competitions last term, while only Maghnes Akliouche (69), who is now at Paris Saint-Germain, created more chances than him (45) among Monaco players.

And the midfielder says he has already put the transfer saga behind him, keeping his focus on helping Monaco this season.

“There was a possibility I could leave. It didn’t go through at the last minute, and that’s part of football,” Camara said.

“I’ve turned the page and am focusing on the season.

“It’s part of a professional player’s life. I managed to stay professional and not dwell on it too much. Once it’s happened, there’s no point in thinking about it again.”

Camara was involved as Monaco beat PSG 2-1 in Ligue 1 last weekend, and he is determined to maintain a high level this season.

“I can help the team a lot,” he added. “Football moves fast; maybe other opportunities will come along.

“But for now, I’m staying focused on the season with Monaco.”
