Cam Ward set a Titans team record despite rookie struggles

· · 1 min read

As the offseason winds down into the final couple of weeks of team activities (OTAs), the buzz surrounding Cam Ward and the Tennessee Titans continues to build.

While some outside analysts are pointing to his up-and-down rookie season as more of a cause for concern, many of those same outlets fail to consider the positives and take all the circumstances into account.

Yes, Ward had a rough start to his rookie season and struggled early, especially under former head coach Brian Callahan. Callahan’s lack of playcalling experience was apparent throughout his tenure in Nashville, and it definitely had a significant impact on Ward’s rookie season. But Ward overcame those obstacles and flashed consistency and talent down the stretch.

Ward also set a Titans’ record for protecting the football, a record that was overlooked in the immediate aftermath of the season.

From Pro Football Reference, Ward recorded a 1.3 percent interception percentage, the lowest single-season percentage for a quarterback in team history with a minimum of 200 pass attempts.

Although Ward protected the ball through the air, he did have a propensity for fumbling, but he also faced an abnormal amount of pressure, both areas that must be improved in 2026 if he wants to take a step forward this season.
