The Indiana Fever‘s inconsistent start to the 2026 season has created a news cycle that Caitlin Clark is tired of hearing about.

Entering Monday night’s game against the Washington Mystics, the Fever are 5-5 and battling a wave of controversies.

Clark has been the subject of shocking rumors that Indiana is ready to trade her to the Los Angeles Sparks after a two-hour team meeting following a 100-84 loss to the Portland Fire on May 30. In addition, the franchise has been in hot water for revoking the credentials of longtime beat writer Scott Agness following a dispute over his reporting on Clark’s health.

Prior to the Fever’s 83-75 loss to the New York Liberty on Saturday, Clark disputed the idea that the team meeting was anything out of the ordinary, and she told reporters to find something else to talk about.

“I don’t know why we’re still on this,” Clark said. “We didn’t blatantly sit there and talk about everything you guys were writing and what’s in the media, we’re just talking about how we can be better as a team.”

With all the expectation placed upon the Fever this season, it was fair to expect significant media scrutiny — especially after Clark returned to health following an injury-wracked 2025 season.

Indiana reached the WNBA semifinals last season and nearly made a miraculous appearance in the Finals. The Fever have three All-Stars and a championship-caliber head coach in Stephanie White.

However, scrutiny gets more intense when a team isn’t winning consistently. This is what the Fever have to figure out as they try to shake off some early-season struggles.
