Cagliari rejects Lens’s €10 million approach for Adam Obert

· · 2 min read

Cagliari has rejected an opening approach from Lens worth up to €10 million for Slovakia international defender Adam Obert, Sky Sport reported on Tuesday via Gianluca Di Marzio. The Ligue 1 club’s offer, described by Cagliari as insufficient, will not change the Serie A side’s plans for the 24-year-old left-back this summer.

Cagliari’s response was blunt: Obert “is not on the market,” according to the Sky Sport report.

Cagliaricalcio-news adds that Lens submitted the proposal as €8 million plus €2 million in add-ons earlier this week, and that Cagliari’s rejection signals the fee falls well short of what the club considers fair value. Lens is expected to prepare an improved offer rather than walk away.

Obert signed a contract extension through June 2030 in March, a deal that leaves Cagliari with no pressure to sell at a discount. Head coach Fabio Pisacane has made clear the defender remains an important part of his squad after a strong preseason, and Cagliari has given no indication it will lower its valuation to accommodate Lens.

The player’s own position complicates Cagliari’s stance.

Cagliarinews24 reports that Obert is inclined to accept a move to Ligue 1 if Lens returns with a better offer, which keeps this story alive even after the first bid was turned down.

Obert joined Cagliari from Sampdoria in 2021 and has made more than 110 Serie A appearances since, establishing himself as a regular starter on the left side of defense. He has also become a fixture for Slovakia, playing at Euro 2024 against Belgium and Ukraine.

For Lens, signing Obert would add a proven Serie A defender with senior international experience to a squad still working out its left-back options. For Cagliari, the calculation is straightforward: a player under contract for four more years, performing well in preseason, is not worth selling for €10 million when a higher bid could still arrive later in the window.

Status: Cagliari has rejected Lens’s opening bid of up to €10 million for Adam Obert. No agreement is in place, the two clubs remain apart on valuation, and Cagliari’s position is that the defender stays unless a significantly improved offer arrives.
