The Chicago Bulls began the preseason on Wednesday with a game against the Phoenix Suns at the United Center. Before the game began, Chicago made sure the late Stacey King wasn’t forgotten.

The Bulls held a moment of silence to remember King, who passed away in June at 59. King was adored by the Bulls family and the city of Chicago both as a player and broadcaster.

From 1989 to 1994, King was one of Chicago’s most popular rotational players. He was there when the dynasty run began in 1991 and won 3 championships altogether from 1991 to 1993. Overall, he played alongside Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Horace Grant, John Paxson, and Bill Cartwright.

Years later, King returned to Chicago as a broadcaster and analyst. For 20 years, King’s was the epitome of colorful commentary. His signature phrases, engagement with the players, and ability to connect with the fans made him immortal.

King was there from the beginning of the Derrick Rose era to the final curtain call of the Billy Donovan era.

His loss has left an obvious void on the Bulls broadcast team. As a result, the Bulls will have a rotating team of analysts filling the spot throughout the season. Among them are former teammates Will Purdue and Scott Williams.

Additionally, Chicago will honor King in different ways this year. First, the Bulls players will emblazon King’s name on a patch on their jerseys. Second, they will host “Stacey King Night” on February 4 against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

King’s legacy is still being felt throughout the city.
